Agroforestry: Customized Advice for Farmers in the Province of Groningen
Over the past decades, trees and shrubs have gradually disappeared from many landscapes in the north of the Netherlands. The Agroforestry Network Groningen was founded at the beginning of 2025. As part of the Agroforestry Network Netherlands, we focus on bringing back trees and shrubs into Groningen’s landscapes to help farmers face modern-day challenges.
We support farmers in the province of Groningen who want to plant trees on their land by organizing meetups, excursions, and sharing practical knowledge. We also assist local governments in implementing agroforestry in their policies.
In addition, we offer customized quick-scan advice for specific questions from farmers in the province of Groningen. Backed by the Urgenda Foundation, we visit farmers, listen to their questions, and assess local conditions and opportunities. We provide thorough and realistic answers, drawing on our knowledge of Groningen’s diverse landscapes and the latest insights in agroforestry.
Agroforestry is still in its early stages of development in the north of the Netherlands, but we see great potential on many levels. We are pleased to be funded by the Spronck Foundation and to support farmers in Groningen in realizing their ideas for farming with the help of trees and shrubs.
