Waste Junkies – documentairy

Waste Junkies takes the viewer on an engaging journey through the world of waste — from the deepest cells in our bodies to the far reaches of space. Waste is everywhere, and the film follows its trail: from its origins in the extraction of raw materials to its final destinations, revealing a hidden world of organized crime and obscure interests in waste management. The film revolves around a question that is literally a matter of life and death: what drives this endless flow of waste? The answer lies in our addiction to economic growth.

Yet there is hope, and that is what this film primarily explores. Ancient wisdom, as well as contemporary thinkers, scientists, and activists, point to realistic solutions that are within reach. The core of the answer lies in restoring fundamental relationships whose importance seems to have been forgotten, particularly in the Western world. Waste Junkies takes the viewer from the Atacama Desert in Chile to sacred Apache lands in Arizona, the toxicology laboratory at Utrecht University, and the streets of Kinshasa. Charismatic individuals in all these locations connect the pieces of the puzzle and advocate for a fundamental change in the way we relate to our surroundings. The film offers multiple perspectives — from Indigenous knowledge to progressive scientific insights. These voices are brought together in a cinematic mosaic that both informs and inspires. Waste itself serves as a central character, guiding the viewer through the story with a distinctive voice. Waste Junkies is a visually powerful narrative showing that change is both necessary and possible — and that everyone can contribute. Newsworthy and thought-provoking, despairing yet hopeful, disturbing yet beautiful. With Waste Junkies, we aim to reach and inspire a global audience to restore the relationships that sustain life on Earth.

As the scenario continues to take shape and the final preparations are being made to film the remaining scenes and interviews, we can also announce that a major Hollywood name is now committed to Waste Junkies. Unfortunately, we can’t reveal who it is just yet, but as soon as we can, we will make a grand announcement. All our efforts are focused on giving the film a wonderful premiere at the end of the summer of 2026.
